Hello everyone! This is Crystal from Eat*Drink*Cleveland. This month the members of the Ohio Blogging Association are participating in a blog swap. Members are paired up to get to know each other and to promote blogging throughout the state. I was so excited to get matched up with Reanna - I'm a huge fan!
I know she loves food so in honor of her recent move to the super cool city of Lakewood, I'm going to share my favorite pizza place with all of you. I'm one of those strange people who live on one side of town and will actually drive across the river to explore the other side! So even though I'm an East Sider, I've been to lots of wonderful places on the West Side. Lakewood is one of my favorite cities so it's a frequent destination. Especially for great food!
This Italian girl loves her pizza and is always on the quest for the perfect pie. One of my very favorite pizzas is from Angelo's.
This Madison Road landmark has been serving up pizza since 1981 but it feels like it's been there forever. It has that old school pizza shop vibe that draws people in from all over town. But that's not why people come - it's for the pizza! Their crust (both traditional and deep dish) is made fresh daily and their toppings are generous and high quality (no fake cheese here!) In fact, their pizza was one of the Silver Spoon Award winners this year and they are regularly voted Best Pizza.
What's all the hype about? Take a look at this:

They have all sorts of options for toppings. They have lots of interesting vegetarian choices beyond the classic cheese. How does Baked Potato Pizza sound? The combo of Butter Sauce, Mashed Potatoes, Cheese, and Red Onion normally comes with Bacon but is just as tasty without. The classic Margherita and Artichoke pizzas are delicious. One of my favorites is their Veggie pizza - it even includes zucchini! My veggie friends also love to order the Chicken Alfredo and Chicken club (without chicken obviously!)
If you are a meat-eater, you will not be disappointed. Besides the chicken options above, they also have Chicken Mac 'n Cheese, Pepperoni, Deluxe and Meat Lovers. For a tropical pie, try the Hawaiian (Traditional Pizza Sauce, Ham, Bacon, and Pineapple) and Acupulco BBQ Chicken (Provolone, BBQ Chicken Breast, Pineapple, Mild Peppers, Bacon, with a touch of Cinnamon.) They also have a Seafood pizza that includes Lobster Cream Sauce, Shrimp, Crabmeat, Fresh Spinach and Provolone Cheese - decadent and delicious!
My absolute favorite is the Super Deluxe. It's a crazy delicious pizza made with Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushroom, Black Olive, Pineapple, Onion, Mild Pepper Rings, Bacon, Ham and Green Peppers (but I swap out the sausage for meatballs.) It's a taste sensation!
Obviously I can go on and on about their pizza but they also have really good non-pizza food. Check out these fresh cut fries:
They have a ton of great salads, appetizers, pasta, sandwiches and wings. Their desserts are REALLY good - it's a shame I never seem to have room for them after stuffing myself with pizza. Their non-traditional Tiramisu has the unexpected and delightful addition of pecans - if you have room, order it. It's really dee-lish!
Another treat is the Chocolate Mousse Bombe - a linzer crust topped with raspberry jam and semi-sweet chocolate mouse hand-dipped in chocolate ganache.
No matter where you live in the CLE, you should definitely stop in and try Angelo's. They have coupons and 1/2 Price Pizza Mondays (dine-in only) to entice you even more. Be warned about Mondays - they are VERY popular days at Angelo's so get their early or prepare to wait. A LONG time.
I hope Reanna loves Lakewood as much as I do. There's so much to do (and EAT!) that she should have a fun packed summer ahead.
Thank you Reanna for letting me visit your blog! And thank you to Alicia from Poise in Parma for organizing our blog swap.
For a list of all the participating blogs, stop by Poise in Parma or the OBA Facebook page. You just might find some other blogs that you want to read. I'd love for you to come visit me over at Eat*Drink*Cleveland! Later this month I'm doing an ice cream post that just might include some more Lakewood favorites.

Wow...that all looks incredible and I'm not a huge pizza person.
ReplyDeleteYou know, in Italy, there are pizzas that have french fries and hot dog pieces. Those fresh cut fries would be perfect for something like that.
Hmm...now I actually do want pizza.
Thanks, Crystal! :-)
awesome post, crystal! i really want pizza now, too, though! :)
ReplyDeleteAngelo's is my fave for traditional-style pizza. You can never go wrong no matter what you order.
ReplyDeleteI love Angelo's. I grew up in Lakewood - live in Cleveland currently but are possibly moving across the border soon. So fun to meet someone else living nearby!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, those desserts (and pizza) look divine!!!
ReplyDeleteTheir desserts look really cool. Most pizza places are not great in the dessert area.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you are adventuresome and explore both sides of the city! I am an Eastsider too, but my son and his fiance live on the West side. Your pictures are fabulous. Makes me hungry for pizza. Just stopping by from the OBA Swap. Happy eating!
ReplyDeleteGlad to make everyone so hungry :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe we need OBA meet up at Angelo's...
